The handling of stones and boulders is inevitable during the restoration of B-sections. It is present when removing gravel banks, widening the watercourse, managing blasted rock, and when blocking out and constructing structures.
- Safety first! Be sure to use communication headsets with hearing protection for quick communication with the operator, wear a high-visibility vest, and maintain a safe distance from the machine. Keep in mind that chips may fly off the stones during handling.
- What type of B-section are you restoring? Try to replicate the reference conditions for the type of section being restored.
- Use a clamshell bucket! It simplifies most tasks, provides better precision, and makes the restoration more efficient.
- Establish a target vision and a plan for how to achieve that vision in collaboration with the machine operator.
